Blue & White Landscape Tea Set – Hand-Painted Underglaze Gaiwan & Tasting Cups

Blue & White Landscape Tea Set – Hand-Painted Underglaze Gaiwan & Tasting Cups

Ink Mountains, Living Tea

Rooted in the centuries-old tradition of Chinese blue-and-white underglaze porcelain, this tea set transforms each brewing session into a moment of quiet contemplation. Painted by hand before glazing, the sweeping mountain landscapes β€” layered peaks, riverside villages, ancient pines, and misty valleys β€” are rendered in the spirit of classical Chinese ink painting. The color is sealed beneath the glaze forever: it will never fade, chip, or wear.

Each piece in this collection depicts a distinct landscape scene, making the set a cohesive visual narrative across your tea table.

Pieces in This Collection

  • Sancai Gaiwan – Mountain Village: The classic three-part gaiwan β€” lid as heaven, bowl as humanity, saucer as earth. The full-wrap landscape depicts rolling mountains and a nestled village with rich detail. Smooth pour, comfortable grip, suitable for all tea types.
  • Straight-Wall Tasting Cup – Riverside Retreat: A sturdy, upright master’s cup with a scene of misty riverbanks and wild grasses. Medium wall thickness concentrates aroma and fits naturally in the hand β€” ideal for solo sessions.
  • Flared-Rim Tasting Cup – Forest Dwelling: A gently flared rim for excellent heat release and a soft lip feel. The exterior depicts ancient trees and a courtyard hidden among mountains β€” perfect for slow, contemplative sipping.
  • Ercai Gaiwan – Layered Peaks: A two-part gaiwan (lid and bowl, no saucer) with an elevated foot for heat insulation. The full-wrap panorama of layered mountain ridges and dense forest creates a commanding visual presence on any tea table.
  • Waisted Tasting Cup – Pine Wind Landscape: An inward-curved waist that fits the palm perfectly and locks in fragrance. The pine-and-mountain motif in expressive ink style makes this cup especially suited to high-aroma teas like rock oolong and black tea.

Jingdezhen Wood-Fired Craftsmanship – No Two Pieces Are the Same

These pieces are fired in a traditional wood-fired kiln (chai yao) in Jingdezhen β€” the porcelain capital of China. Unlike industrial electric kilns, wood firing is an unpredictable, living process: the flame, temperature, atmosphere, and natural ash fall shift continuously throughout the firing, leaving each piece with its own unrepeatable surface character.

The result is a glaze that breathes β€” warm, layered, and subtly different in every light. Natural kiln marks, gentle variations in glaze depth, and the faint traces of wood ash are not imperfections. They are the fingerprints of fire.

From hand-forming and glazing to the final kiln firing, every piece is shaped by the collaboration of earth and flame. Even within the same design, no two pieces will ever be identical. Each firing is a singular event. Each piece, an unrepeatable outcome.

Every kiln opening reveals something that cannot be made again.
Every piece carries the unique mark left by fire.

Production quantities are inherently limited by the nature of wood firing β€” each batch is small, and pieces that do not meet our standards are set aside. What reaches you has passed through fire, time, and the discerning eye of the maker.

Brewing Guidance

Rinse all pieces with hot water before first use. For the gaiwan, fill approximately 1/3 with tea leaves. Pour 90–100Β°C water depending on tea type and steep for 20–40 seconds for the first infusion. The set pairs beautifully with rock oolong, aged pu-erh, white tea, and black tea.

⚠️ Care Instructions

Hand wash only with warm water. Do not microwave or use in a dishwasher. Porcelain is fragile β€” handle with care and store away from edges to prevent accidental damage.
