Huangjin Wanliang Gold Award Rougui | Wuyi Half-Rock Oolong | Peach & Honey Fruit Aroma
Huangjin Wanliang Gold Award Rougui | Wuyi Half-Rock Oolong | Peach & Honey Fruit Aroma
Huangjin Wanliang — Gold Award Rougui from Wuyi's Half-Rock Heartland
Some teas whisper. This one announces itself the moment the lid lifts.
Huangjin Wanliang (黄金万两) is a Gold Award-winning Rougui sourced from the core half-rock (半岩) growing zones of Wuyi Mountain — the rolling hillside transitions of Yanzi Ke, Qingshi Yan, and Xingcun. Here, the soil is a rich blend of broken stone and red clay, with higher red earth content than the pure rock zones. More sunlight, moderate day-night temperature swings, and naturally mineral-rich ground encourage the tea trees to concentrate fructose and aromatic fruit compounds — making this Rougui's fruit fragrance exceptionally vibrant and expressive.
Tasting Notes
- Aroma: Bold and soaring — the moment you open the brew, ripe peach, honey nectarine, and candied fruit fill the room. The signature cinnamon spice weaves through, creating a fragrance that's open, expansive, and impossible to ignore
- Flavor: Clean, sweet, and silky smooth with a full honey sweetness. Medium body, but rich and satisfying — almost no bitterness or astringency
- Finish: A fast, lasting sweetness that blooms across the tongue and lingers well after the cup is empty
- Rock Character: A subtle, fine mineral undertone — lighter than Zhengyan, but present and refined, adding quiet depth to the fruit-forward profile
The Steeping Journey — 5 to 8 Infusions
- Steeps 1–3: Explosive fruit fragrance — ripe peach and honey fruit at their peak, cinnamon spice dancing underneath
- Steeps 4–6: The aroma softens into elegant floral notes, the liquor becomes cleaner and more refined
- Steeps 7–8: A gentle woody sweetness emerges in the finish, while the cinnamon base holds steady throughout
Why Half-Rock Rougui?
Zhengyan Rougui commands premium prices for its deep mineral complexity and restrained elegance. Half-rock Rougui offers something different — and equally compelling: expressive, outward-blooming fruit fragrance that fills the room, a smooth and approachable sweetness, and a Gold Award-level balance of aroma, sweetness, and smoothness. At a fraction of the price of core-rock teas, this is the ideal everyday tea and the perfect entry point into the world of Wuyi rock oolong.
