Lao Yan Ni Silver-Inlaid Zisha Portable Gongfu Tea Set – 125ml Teapot & 2 Cups | 999 Silver Gilding
Lao Yan Ni Silver-Inlaid Zisha Portable Gongfu Tea Set – 125ml Teapot & 2 Cups | 999 Silver Gilding
Ancient Craft. Carried Anywhere.
The Lao Yan Ni Silver-Inlaid Zisha Portable Gongfu Tea Set is a masterwork of two of China’s most storied ceramic traditions — the raw, primal beauty of Lao Yan Ni clay and the luminous precision of Liu Yin (silver gilding), a technique dating back to the Han Dynasty. This is not just a tea set. It is a piece of living history, compact enough to carry with you.
What’s Included
- 1 × Lao Yan Ni Zisha Teapot — 125ml
- 2 × Tasting Cups — 55ml each
- 1 × Portable Cloth Carry Bag — 18 × 10.5 × 10.5 cm
- 1 × Tea Mat — 26.5 × 11 cm
The Clay: Lao Yan Ni (老岩泥)
Lao Yan Ni is a rare clay formulated from raw ore minerals blended with fine pottery clay, then fired multiple times through high-temperature oxidation and reduction processes. The result is a body of primitive, unpolished texture — rough and honest to the touch — with a surface that shifts in color through the unpredictable magic of kiln transformation (yao bian 窑变). Every piece emerges from the kiln uniquely its own.
The Silver: 999 Liu Yin Gilding (鎏银工艺)
The spiral-textured surface is gilded with 999 pure silver using the ancient Liu Yin technique — a hot-working craft originating in the Han Dynasty. Pure silver is ground into fine powder, melted at high temperature, hand-brushed onto the ceramic surface, then fired three times in the kiln to bond permanently. The result: silver that will not peel, chip, or fade with use.
Note: The silver surface will naturally oxidize to yellow or black over time — this is normal and expected. Simply polish with the included silver polishing rod to restore its original brilliance.
Seasoning Your New Teapot (Opening the Pot)
Before first use, season your Zisha teapot to remove any residual kiln odors and nourish the clay:
- Brew a strong pot of pu-erh or green tea — these full-flavored teas are ideal for cleansing and conditioning the interior.
- Fill the teapot with the boiling tea liquor and allow it to soak overnight.
- After seasoning, thoroughly dry the teapot and place it in a well-ventilated, shaded area to air dry naturally. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent cracking.
Care & Maintenance
- Hand wash only — no detergent; rinse with hot water after each use.
- Dry thoroughly after each use; store in a ventilated space.
- Silver surface: polish with the included silver polishing rod when oxidation occurs.
- Avoid dropping or sudden temperature changes.
