San Hua Feng Rougui | Ma Tou Yan Zheng Yan Rock Oolong — 24-Hour Slow Roast, Signature Creaminess

San Hua Feng Rougui | Ma Tou Yan Zheng Yan Rock Oolong — 24-Hour Slow Roast, Signature Creaminess

The Finest Expression of Ma Rou — San Hua Feng Rougui

San Hua Feng (三花峰) is one of the most prized micro-sites within Ma Tou Yan — the legendary home of Ma Rou (马肉), Wuyi’s most celebrated Rougui category. Situated between Ma Tou Yan and Jiu Long Ke, named for the cliff face that blooms like three flowers, and sitting squarely within the 72 km² core zheng yan (正岩) scenic zone, this is a site of exceptional pedigree. Paired with a 24-hour slow charcoal roast that fires the leaves through completely, San Hua Feng Rougui is this year’s first Rougui — and the finest union of terroir and craft we have produced.

A Roast That Transforms

Twenty-four hours of slow, patient charcoal roasting does something that faster roasting cannot: it fires the tea all the way through, layer by layer, until the cinnamon and fruit aromas are fully integrated and the signature creaminess of San Hua Feng is locked in permanently. The result is a tea that evolves beautifully in the cup — cinnamon-forward at the opening, transitioning gracefully into fruit sweetness in the mid and late steeps, with a clarity and cleanliness that only slow roasting can achieve.

Three Layers of Fragrance — The San Hua Feng Signature

Top Note — Lid Aroma: Clean, sharp cinnamon-bark spice opens first — crisp and focused, never harsh or dry. Fresh honey peach and gardenia blossom rise alongside it in a lush floral-fruit sweetness. And from the very first lift, a soft, gentle cream note is already present — the signature of San Hua Feng, arriving early and staying throughout. The aroma is clean, elevated, and immediately distinctive.

Mid Note — Fragrance in the Liquor: The fruit, cream, and cinnamon aromas sink fully into the body of the tea — none floating on the surface. A faint, cool cliff-rock woodiness threads through the liquor, grounding the sweetness with a quiet mineral vitality. The creaminess is woven into the tea itself, not just the aroma.

Base Note — Cold Cup: Set the gaiwan aside. A lasting honey-sweet cream fragrance remains on the lid — clean, warm, and enduring. The lingering cup creaminess is the unmistakable signature of San Hua Feng: it stays long after the session ends, and it is found nowhere else.

Smooth, Sweet & Endlessly Comfortable

The liquor is smooth and full-bodied from the very first sip — rich, sweet, and effortlessly drinkable. The sweetness is direct and immediate, with no build-up required. After swallowing, the mouth fills with a spring-like salivation that is generous and sustained — one of the most comfortable and satisfying finishes in the Rougui world. This is a tea that makes you feel good long after the cup is empty.

Product Description

San Hua Feng (三花峰) is a top-tier micro-site within Ma Tou Yan — the legendary origin of Ma Rou (马肉), Wuyi’s most celebrated Rougui. Located between Ma Tou Yan and Jiu Long Ke, named for the cliff face that resembles three blooming flowers, and sitting within the 72 km² core zheng yan (正岩) scenic zone, San Hua Feng carries the full weight of Ma Tou Yan’s prestige with a character that is distinctly its own.

What sets this expression apart is the 24-hour slow charcoal roast — a patient, meticulous process that fires the leaves completely through, layer by layer. The result is a tea that evolves across the session: cinnamon-bark spice leads the opening steeps with clean, sharp clarity, then transitions gracefully into fruit sweetness in the mid and late steeps. Throughout, the signature creaminess of San Hua Feng is present — from the first lift of the lid to the last cold cup — warm, gentle, and completely clean.

In the cup, the liquor is smooth, full-bodied, and immediately sweet. The salivation that follows each sip is generous and spring-like — one of the most comfortable and satisfying finishes in the Rougui world. A cool cliff-rock woodiness threads quietly through the liquor, grounding the sweetness with mineral depth.

This is this year’s first Rougui. It is the finest union of San Hua Feng terroir and slow-roast craft we have produced — and it shows in every sip.

Brewing Guidance

Vessel: Gaiwan or small Yixing teapot (recommended)
Water Temperature: 100°C (212°F) — fully boiling water to fully activate the cinnamon, fruit, and cream aromas
Leaf Amount: 8.3g per 100–150ml

Steeping Guide:
• Infusions 1–3: Pour and drain immediately — flash-brew to capture the clean cinnamon and cream lid aroma at its most vivid. Do not steep or stew.
• Infusions 4 and beyond: Gradually increase steeping time by 5–10 seconds with each steep. Watch for the graceful transition from cinnamon to fruit sweetness as the session progresses.

⚠️ Important: Never cover and steep (no stewing). The layered cinnamon-to-fruit evolution and signature creaminess are best experienced through short, controlled infusions.

Number of Infusions: 8–10 infusions

Tips:
• Use fully boiling water — this 24-hour slow-roasted zheng yan tea demands and rewards it
• Pay attention to how the aroma shifts across steeps — the cinnamon-to-fruit transition is one of San Hua Feng’s most distinctive pleasures
• After each session, smell the cold gaiwan lid — the lingering honey-cream cold cup aroma is the signature of San Hua Feng and unlike anything else in the Rougui world
• Best appreciated in a slow, focused session — this tea reveals more with attention and patience
