Yu Long Gu Rougui | Wuyi Valley Half-Rock Oolong — Fruity, Camphor & Effortlessly Drinkable

Yu Long Gu Rougui | Wuyi Valley Half-Rock Oolong — Fruity, Camphor & Effortlessly Drinkable

The Valley’s Best-Kept Secret — Yu Long Gu Rougui

Nestled in the lush canyon ecosystem of Yu Long Gu (玉龙谷), surrounded by ancient camphor trees and cooled by valley streams, this half-rock Rougui delivers a drinking experience that punches far above its category. Rich fruit aroma, sweet and silky liquor, and a distinctive camphor freshness that is unique to this valley — all at exceptional value. This is the Rougui that surprises you.

Three Layers of Fragrance — Rich & Layered

Top Note — Lid Aroma: A powerful, explosive cinnamon-bark spice opens the session — bold and full of energy. Honey peach and gardenia blossom rise alongside it in a lush, complex floral-fruit sweetness. And beneath it all, a cool, clean camphor wood fragrance — the natural gift of the camphor trees that line the valley — adds an elegant, refreshing depth that keeps the aroma from ever feeling one-dimensional.

Mid Note — Fragrance in the Liquor: The fruit, camphor, and cinnamon aromas all sink fully into the body of the tea — none of them floating on the surface. Running through the liquor is the valley’s own cool, clean canyon woodiness: a crisp, refreshing vitality that is the signature of this gorge ecosystem, present in every sip from start to finish.

Base Note — Cold Cup: Set the gaiwan aside. A lasting honey-sweet camphor fragrance remains — clean, enduring, and completely free of any char or off-notes. The medium charcoal roasting adds a soft, gentle creaminess that surfaces quietly in the cold cup, rounding out the finish beautifully.

Sweet, Silky & Made for Everyday Drinking

The liquor is a genuine pleasure: rich with fruit aroma, sweet and smooth on the palate, and effortlessly drinkable from the very first cup. The canyon ecosystem produces a Rougui that is naturally approachable — full of character, but never demanding. This is the tea you reach for when you want something exceptional without the ceremony.

Product Description

Yu Long Gu (玉龙谷) is a canyon ecosystem tucked within the Wuyi mountain range — a lush gorge where valley streams run cool, ancient camphor trees line the slopes, and the microclimate produces a half-rock Rougui of surprising depth and character. This is a lesser-known site, but among those who have discovered it, it has earned a devoted following for one simple reason: it over-delivers.

The lid aroma is bold and layered — explosive cinnamon-bark spice, lush honey peach and gardenia sweetness, and beneath it all, a cool, clean camphor wood fragrance that is the natural signature of the valley’s ancient trees. In the liquor, all three aromas sink fully into the body of the tea, joined by the canyon’s own cool, clean woodiness — a crisp, refreshing vitality that runs through every sip from start to finish.

The liquor is sweet, smooth, and genuinely easy to drink — rich with fruit aroma and full of character, but never demanding or heavy. In the cold cup, a lasting honey-camphor sweetness remains alongside a soft, gentle creaminess from the medium charcoal roasting: clean, stable, and completely free of off-notes.

Keng jian character. Camphor complexity. Half-rock price. Yu Long Gu Rougui is the discovery that keeps on giving.

Brewing Guidance

Vessel: Gaiwan or small Yixing teapot (recommended)
Water Temperature: 100°C (212°F) — fully boiling water to unlock the full cinnamon, fruit, and camphor aroma
Leaf Amount: 8.3g per 100–150ml

Steeping Guide:
• Infusions 1–3: Pour and drain immediately — flash-brew to capture the layered cinnamon, fruit, and camphor lid aroma at its most vivid. Do not steep or stew.
• Infusions 4 and beyond: Gradually increase steeping time by 5–10 seconds with each steep. The cool canyon woodiness and camphor freshness deepen beautifully across multiple steeps.

⚠️ Important: Never cover and steep (no stewing). The layered camphor and fruit character is best preserved with short, controlled infusions.

Number of Infusions: 8–10 infusions

Tips:
• Use fully boiling water to fully activate the camphor and cinnamon aromas
• Pay attention to the cool canyon woodiness that runs through the liquor — it is the unique signature of the Yu Long Gu ecosystem
• After each session, smell the cold gaiwan lid — the honey-camphor cold cup aroma and soft creaminess are among this tea’s most distinctive pleasures
• An excellent everyday tea — complex enough to explore, approachable enough to enjoy without ceremony
